Frequently Asked Questions

Where are Motorized Power Screens commonly installed?

Motorized Power Screens are commonly installed on patios, California rooms, garage doors, and interior or exterior windows and doors. They can turn your desired space into a shaded, comfortable, private, wind-free and pest-free environment.

Motorized Power Screens are the ideal solution for any opening that helps add living space, shade, weather protection, privacy and protection from unwanted critters to your home. Depending on the fabric selected, our Motorized Power Screens can offer an unobstructed view while reducing the harmful effects of the sun’s powerful ultraviolet rays. They are commonly installed to protect furniture and wood floors from harmful UV rays common to Southern California.

What size opening will a Motorized Power Screen accommodate?

To accommodate various width and height requirements, three housing canister sizes are available. Canister size is determined by the width, height, and screen mesh/fabric to be used. The three housing canister sizes include Series 3, Series 4, and Series 5.

Series 3:
A Series 3 housing canister (3-5/16”h x 3-1/4”d) can span up to 10’ in width and 7’ in height.

Series 4:
A Series 4 housing canister (4-1/8”h x 4-3/8”d) can span up to 18’ in width and 10’ in height.

Series 5:
A Series 5 housing canister (5-1/2”h x 5-3/4”d) can span up to 25’ in width and 20’ in height.

Please refer to our Features section for details.

What are the Standard Colors available?

Motorized Power Screens are available in 11-standard power coated colors: black, bright white, bronze, brown, desert sand, gray, green, navajo, silver, tan and white. The aluminum housing, weight bar, and side track color can be selected from one of the standard colors to compliment your home’s design.

Are Custom Colors available?

Custom powder coated Tiger Drylac RAL colors are available for Motorized Power Screens for an additional charge. The aluminum housing, weight bar, and side tracks can be selected from one of the custom colors to compliment your home’s design.

What Mesh Options are available?

Motorized Power Screens are available with a wide range of mesh, styles and color selections. Whether you want the sun blocked out without obstructing your view, complete blackout, or something in between, we have the right mesh option for you. Mesh warranties vary depending on your selection, but Classic has a number of mesh selections with 5- 10-year limited warranties on exterior applications.

Can I Print an Image or Logo on the Mesh?

Yes. We can custom print on 1 or 2 sides of the mesh or solid fabric. Certain restrictions do apply. Contact our office for all the details.

What Fabric Options are Available?

Motorized Power Screens are available with Sunbrella Fabric. Unlike ordinary fabrics where dyes are added to the surface of the fabric, Sunbrella color pigments are added during the production of the Sunbrella fiber, which results in Sunbrella yarn and fabric with color throughout that won’t fade or wash away over time.

With over 200 colors and patterns to choose from, you’re sure to find the perfect match for your home.

What is a Horizontal Seam?

A horizontal seam in the mesh or fabric is necessary when you reach a certain height for an opening in which a power screen is to be installed. The seam joins two pieces of screen mesh or fabric together to accommodate certain heights. Whether or not a seam is required varies depending on the screen mesh and fabric. The horizontal seam location can be placed at the top or bottom of the power screen depending on the customer’s design. An exact location is also available.

What is a Somfy Motor?

Somfy is the world’s leading manufacturer of specialized motors and control systems for motorized power screens, retractable awnings, rolling shutters, interior shutters, blinds, projection screens, and other lift-up applications for the home.

What are the Motor Specifications?

The AC Motor Specifications are: 120VAC/60Hz, 2 to 3 Amps. FCC Approved and UL Listed. Home Automation RTS Interface is also available.

What Remote Control Options Are Available?

A one-channel wireless remote control (hand-held or wall switch) can operate one power screen. A multi-channel wireless remote control (hand-held or wall switch) can operate up to five separate power screens independently. A hard-wired version of the wireless wall switch is available as well upon request.

Can I order a Motorized Power Screen without a Motor?

Yes. Motorized Power Screens can be ordered without a motor. A Motorized Power Screen without a motor is called a Manual Crank Sun Screen.

Is it possible to order a Motorized Power Screen without a Housing?

Yes. Our Motorized Power Screens are available without a housing. A Motorized Power Screen without a housing is called a Motorized Drop Roll (bracket mount system).

What are L-Brackets?

L-Brackets are used for inside jamb mount installations to support the vertical side tracks. L-Brackets are not necessary for an inside jamb mount if you are using a wire guide system, but they can help finish the opening off by providing a cleaner look.

How do I clean my Motorized Power Screen?

Please refer to our Maintenance section for all of the Motorized Power Screen cleaning details.

What is the Warranty for a Motorized Power Screen?

Please refer to our Warranty section for all of the Motorized Power Screen warranty details.

Is a Motorized Power Screen able to keep pets or kids in or out?

Motorized Power Screens are commonly installed to keep pets and animals inside or outside. The zipper system (vertical tracks/rails) creates a 100% seal on the sides of the screen while the weight of the hem bar makes it nearly impossible for any animal to escape. With excessive force, however, it is possible for a pet, animal, or even a child to push through the zipper system.
