Closet Doors Maintenance

Complying with our closet door maintenance suggestions will ensure years of stress-free service from your closet doors. Proper care, cleaning, and usage of your closet doors are essential to their longevity. A little cleaning once a month will prevent a major cleaning project.

How to Clean Closet Door Tracks & Wheels

Clean your closet door tracks and wheels every month to keep them clear of dirt and debris. Remove all loose dirt and debris from the tracks and wheels with canned air or a vacuum with a soft brush attachment.

After removing dirt from the tracks and wheels, use a soft, damp cloth and a non-abrasive cleaning substance to wipe them down. Do not spray the cleaning substance directly onto the tracks and wheels. Spray the cleaning substance into the soft, damp cloth, then wipe the tracks and wheels down.

  • Do not abrasively scrub the tracks as this will damage the powder coated, painted, or anodized surface instantly.
  • Do not use oil, WD40, grease, petroleum, or oil-base sprays as these will attract dirt or impair the proper operation of your closet doors.

How to Clean Aluminum or Steel Closet Doors

Aluminum frames and steel frames are either powder coated, painted, or anodized for a brilliant finish. Wipe down all frames with a soft, damp cloth and non-abrasive cleaning substance.

  • Do not abrasively scrub the frame finish as this will damage the surface instantly.
  • Do not spray the cleaning substance directly onto the frame finish. Spray the cleaning substance into the soft, damp cloth and then softly wipe down the frame finish.

How to Clean Composite or Wood Closet Doors

Composite frames and wood frames can never be immersed in water. Frames and panels will warp upon absorbing moisture. Depending on your home’s humidity level, an occasional paint job and/or stain will help prolong the life of your composite and wood closet doors.

  1. Remove all loose dust from the frames and panels with a feather duster or vacuum with a soft brush attachment.
  2. Use the dry method to clean the frames and panels. After you have removed the dust from the frames and panels, simply use a non-abrasive soft cloth to wipe them down.
  3. Do not scrub the closet doors.

How to Clean Glass Closet Doors

When your closet door glass becomes dirty or streaky, clean it with a residue-free cleaner to restore the clarity and shine. With the proper technique, you can remove residue without leaving a film or streak on your closet door glass.

  • Do not abrasively scrub the glass as this will damage the surface instantly.
  • Do not spray the cleaning substance directly onto the glass. Spray the cleaning substance into the soft, damp cloth and then softly wipe down the glass.

How to Clean Chalkboard & Magnetic Board Closet Doors

The chalkboard and magnetic board on your closet door can be cleaned by following the below procedures. With the proper technique, you can remove all chalk marks without leaving a film or streak on your closet door.

  1. Wipe down the chalkboard/magnetic board with clean erasers to remove the large amounts of chalk dust.
  2. Wipe down the whole chalkboard/magnetic board with a clean white cloth to remove as much excess chalk dust as possible.
  3. Soak two clean white cloths in a bucket filled with warm water.
  4. Wring out one of the cloths.
  5. Wipe down the entire chalkboard/magnetic Board with the cloth beginning at the top left corner and moving in a single horizontal stripe across to the top right corner.
  6. Refold the cloth so that a clean portion is available.
  7. Move down just below the top stripe and wipe back across the chalkboard/magnetic board from the right side to the left. Continue with these stripes all the way down to the bottom of the chalkboard/magnetic board. Change to a new cloth when the current cloth gets too full of chalk dust.
  8. Allow the chalkboard/magnetic board to dry before using.
