Retractable Screen Doors FAQ’s

Stow Away Retractable Screens

What is a StowAway Retractable Screen Door?

A StowAway Retractable Screen Door is an upgrade alternative to a traditional swinging or sliding screen that is attached to the exterior or interior of a door or window frame. Old broken down traditional screens are being replaced on a daily basis with Retractable Screen Doors.

A Retractable Screen Door consists of a housing, pull bar, tracks, sill adapter, mold and handles. The entire screen system retracts back into its protective housing canister for storage when not in use. A spring is installed in every Retractable Screen Door which allows the screen to retract by itself when released from the catch device. The rate at which the screen accelerates back into the housing canister is controlled with either a Fast Close or Slow Close Hydraulic Speed Reducer.

One side of the screen mesh is attached to a roller tube mounted within the housing component. This roller tube spins internally with the help of the spring and close device mounted inside the roller tube at opposite ends. The other end of the screen mesh is secured to the pull bar with a seamless v-clip design. This pull bar has nylon end caps that wrap around the top and bottom tracks for a smooth and jump proof operation.

Tracks allow the pull bar to slide freely back and forth within the opening. The screen mesh, unlike a traditional screen is not attached at the top and bottom of the opening in order for it to be able to retract. Screen mesh on a retractable screen system is fabricated to sit within the top and bottom track to ensure superior protection. Sill adapters and moldings are used to help create that perfect frame for your door or window Retractable Screen Door installation. Once deployed, the pull bar is fixed in place by a catch device installed on the side opposite the housing.
