Frequently Asked Questions:
1. What is Polycore?

3. What types of openings will plantation shutters work on?
The applications are endless and can be installed on any window (square, rectangle, arched, racked, circled or half moon) or Door (in-swing, out-swing or sliding). It doesn’t matter how tall, how small or how wide the opening is, we can accommodate every possible opening with our interior plantation shutters since we build each and every shutter customized just for your opening.
4. How many choices for shutters are available in the industry?
Customers really have three choices: Plastic, Wood and Polycore.
Wood has been the traditional shutter because it was the only material available. But just like boats or window frames, wood is a poor second to the technologies available today. Several years ago the plastics industry decided to extrude plastic profiles that would take the place of wood. For a short while this was the only option to wood: but this was a true plastic shutter developed by a plastics expert. It lacked the aesthetic and traditional look associated with a wood shutter, and still had all of the problems inherent to wood, and added a few new ones.
Classic Home Improvement Products researched this leading edge technology and had a vision. This vision was to create a shutter that was better looking, longer lasting, eliminated wood’s problems and plastic’s poor looks, and would be a better value overall. This vision led to the development of the Polycore shutter. Polycore is unaffected by moisture
5. Polycore vs. Lexwood?
In comparison, wood is hygroscopic meaning it has the ability to give off and take in moisture. This characteristic of wood allows it to expand and contract causing a once perfectly straight plank to bow, twist, and warp over time. When this happens to louvers and panels it allows light through the gaps. With Polycore you will always get perfect closure 100% of the time
6. Why is Polycore better than other traditional substrates?
Polycore is UNAFFECTED BY MOISTURE. Other woods will expand and contract causing warping, cracking, peeling, chipping and splitting. This will never happen with Polycore. Install them next to the sea coast, in the bathroom, in the sauna, or even if you forget to close the windows in a rain storm --no worries. Polycore shutters are by far the best shutter in the synthetic class and in the world. Polycore is in a class all by itself.
7. How do I clean my shutters?
Simply use a damp cloth or non-abrasive cleaning substance to wipe them down.
8. How difficult is it to install Plantation Shutters?
Our Polycore and Lexwood shutters should be measured and installed by a certified, licensed, bonded and insured Classic Home Improvement Products, Inc. installer. The typical installation on a single window or door application is usually done by a crew of two in about 15 – 30 minutes.
9. Can I do my own installation?
Yes, but we suggest to have all shutters measured by Classic Home Improvement Products, Inc. to guaranty a proper fit. Turn-around time is the same from the time you place your order. |
