Fountains

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. How do the fountains work?
All the fountains are self-contained. The water is kept in the basin and there is a small electric pump, which circulates the water to the top, out from the water disbursement, and down the surface of the fountain.

2. Can my fountain be installed outside?
Yes, you can put your fountain outside, provided that the outlet is a GFI protected circuit.

3. How often do I have to clean my fountain?
This really depends on use. However, it would be in your best interest to clean the pumps every 6-8 months, and the fountain about every year, to be sure that everything is still in great working condition.

4. What type of water should I use?
We recommend distilled or bottled water for your fountains. You can use tap water, but calcium in the water will eventually cause the components to clog.

5. How often do I have to fill the fountain with water?
Fountains are natural humidifiers for the environment. The amount of water each fountain consumes daily, depends on how dry the air is and what type of fountain you have. Generally speaking, you should add a small amount of water each day instead of adding several gallons every few days. Try to maintain the water level in the fountain.

6. How often do I have to change the water?
You should never have to change the water in the fountain, as it is constantly evaporating. Simply add water as it evaporates.

7. Do I have to add anything to the water?
Yes, if you are using tap water, chlorine should be added to prevent algae build up.

8. How long will the water pump last?

Typically about 1-2 years of life from each pump. The pump must be used while completely submerged in water. The water acts as a coolant to the  pump and maintains the proper operating temperature.
