Interior Plantation Shutters Features, the two types of Interior Plantation Shutters that we offer are Polycore & Lexwood.
What is a Polycore Interior Plantation Shutter?
Polycore is the world’s only solid synthetic polymer shutter with internal aluminum core reinforcement in the rails, stiles, and louvers. The aluminum reinforced louvers prevent sagging in wider panels. Thanks to this technology, a single Polycore panel can reach up to 36” in width.
In the fabrication process we screw the rail and stile together with two 3/16” x 3” self-tapping screws in each corner of the panels. This process prevents the panels from racking, thus creating the strongest panels in the industry today.
All Polycore shutters have a durable baked on paint finish that is guaranteed not to fade, chip, or turn yellow, so they never need to be re-painted. They are fire retardant (State Certified) as well as moisture resistant. Polycore also offers a higher insulating value against hot and cold weather. Polycore shutters are by far the best shutter in the world.
What is a Lexwood Interior Plantation Shutter?
Lexwood is a premium basswood shutter. They are built with traditional hand craftsmanship along with the newest technology for a precision design and consistent quality control. Lexwood shutters provide an abundant selection of paints or stains to match any home decor.
All Lexwood shutters have a durable baked on paint finish. Lexwood shutters are the most elegant looking custom wood shutters available in the world.

Polycore and Lexwood shutters offer various color Hinges. Hinges are the metal mechanisms that are attached to the vertical stile and connect the panel to the frame. Hinges enable the shutter panels to open and close with ease.
Polycore and Lexwood shutters offer similar frames. The shutter frame is a profile used to frame the shutter panels while at the same time offering a decorative trim to the window opening. Our frames provide a square and even mounting structure for the panels and can help compensate for an out of square opening.
Polycore and Lexwood offer the same Louver Sizes. The Louvers on an interior plantation shutter are the panel components that rotate to offer control over the light and view.
Polycore and Lexwood shutters are available in numerous panel configurations depending on the height and the width of each opening. The most common configurations can be found below.
Standard: One panel hinged on left and/or one panel hinged on right.
Bi-Fold: Two panels hinged together that fold up next to one another.
Bypass: Two panels mounted on an overhead track system that slide past one another.
Tilt Rod or Clearview
Polycore and Lexwood shutters are available with a Tilt Rod or Clearview option.
A Tilt Rod comes standard on all Interior Plantation Shutters. The Tilt Rod is the center vertical bar on a panel that coordinates the movement of the louvers by connecting them to one another. The Tilt Rod is used to open or close the louvers.
For an additional charge, the Clearview option refers to an aluminum rod along the back of the shutter panel that connects and coordinates the movement of all the louvers. With this design, there is no need for a front vertical tilt rod. The Clearview option gives the front of the shutter a cleaner look. The shutter louvers can easily be opened by rotating any individual louver which operates all the louvers.
Divider Rail, Split Tilt Rod or Split Clearview
Polycore and Lexwood shutters are available at no additional charge with a Divider Rail, Split Tilt Rod or Split Clearview option. The benefit with any of these options is that they allow the louvers in the upper section to move independently from those in the lower section.
A Divider Rail is placed between the top and bottom rail for design and/or structural support when needed. The Divider Rail option can be positioned at almost any spot on the shutter panel.
A Split Tilt Rod is an alternative option to the divider rail. Instead of having a visible divider rail, the tilt rod can be cut into two separate rods. This Split Tilt Rod option can be positioned at almost any spot desired on the shutter panel.
A Split Clearview is an alternative option to the divider rail. Instead of having a visible divider rail, the aluminum rod on the back of the panel can be cut into two separate rods. Â This Split Clearview option can be positioned at almost any spot desired on the shutter panel.
Polycore and Lexwood shutters are available with a Vertical T-Post. A Vertical T-Post is inserted into a shutter frame to separate the individual panels and also add structural support. A Vertical T-Post is required once a shutter exceeds a certain width, but it is also used for decorative purposes to cover window mullions. The Vertical T-Post can be found in the picture below at the center of the opening. The Vertical T-Post in this picture is 1” wide.
Polycore and Lexwood shutters are available in numerous specialty shapes. A sampling of some of the Specialty Shapes available can be found below.
Fixed Door Handle Cut Outs
Polycore & Lexwood shutters are available with any of the handle cut out options below. A handle cut out is needed when a door handle (lever) protrudes into the glass section of the door.
No Handle Cut Out: If the handles will not interfere with the shutter panels.
Half Circle Cut Out: The #2 choice because the half circle cut out still requires a rectangular border.
Rectangle Cut Out: The #1 choice when it comes to simplicity and clean looks.
Polycore & Lexwood shutters use a track system as seen below for Bi-Fold & Bypass Track System Interior Shutters.
Bi-fold Track System: When two or more panels are hinged together to fold up adjacent to each other.
Bypass Track System: When two or more panels on an overhead track slide past each other.
