Awnings FAQ’s – What is an Awning?
An Awning consists of Screen Mesh or Fabric and the support frame. The purpose of an awning whether it be a fixed awning or retractable awning is to extend your living space by providing protection from the sun and/or rain.
What are Common Awning installations?
Awnings are commonly installed to provide protection for doors, windows, balconies, decks, gazebos, porches, wood trellis covers and patios.
What Awning Styles are available?
Awnings are available as a Fixed Awning or a Retractable Awning. The most common applications are listed below. Please refer to our Features section for further details.

What Awning Valance Styles are available?
Awning Valances are available for Fixed Awnings and Retractable Awnings. Fixed Awnings are available with a loose or fixed valance while Retractable Awnings come with a loose valance. A valance is optional and not required for an Awning. We currently have 12 Valance styles to choose from. Please refer to our Features section for further details.
What is a Manual Crank?
A Manual Retractable Awning and Manual Retractable Window Awning come standard with a Manual Crank operation. A Manual Crank is used to operate the Awnings projection by turning the crank counter clockwise to extend the Awning and clockwise to retract the Awning.
What Frame Colors are available?
Fixed Awning Frames are available in any custom powder coated Tiger Drylac RAL color. Retractable Awning Frames are available in 3 standard frame colors that include White, Beige and Bronze. Please refer to our Features section for further details.
What are the Screen Mesh Options?
Awnings are available in a wide range of Screen Mesh styles and colors. They can block the sun and rain or partially block the sun and rain depending on the mesh. Please refer to our Features section for further details.
What are the Fabric Options?
Awnings are available with Sunbrella Fabric. Sunbrella color pigments are added during the production of fade-resistant Sunbrella fiber. The final result is Sunbrella yarn and fabric with color throughout that resists fading and won’t wash away.

What is a Screen Mesh Seam or Fabric Seam?
A Seam in the Screen Mesh or Fabric is necessary when you reach a certain length, width or height for an opening in which an Awning is to be installed. The seam joins two pieces of Screen Mesh or Fabric together. The times in which a seam is needed varies per Awning.
What are Roof Brackets?
Roof Brackets are required when a Retractable Awning is mounted on the roof to provide a smooth and stable mounting surface.
Can I order an Awning with Custom Printed Text?
Yes. We can add Custom Printed Text to almost any Awning. Certain restrictions do apply. The most common place for Custom Printed Text is on the Valance. Please contact our office for further details.
What is Somfy? (Motorization Feature)
Somfy is the world’s leading manufacturer of specialized motors and control systems.
What are the Somfy Motor Specifications? (Motorization Feature)
The AC Motor Specifications are: 120VAC/60Hz, 2 to 3 Amps. FCC Approved and UL Listed. A Home Automation Interface is available.
What are the Somfy Remote Control Options? (Motorization Feature)
A one-channel wireless Somfy Remote Control (hand-held or wall switch) can operate one Motorized Awning. A multi-channel wireless Somfy Remote Control (hand-held or wall switch) can operate up to five separate Motorized Awnings independently. A hard wired version of the wireless wall switch is available upon request.
What is the Lead Time for an Awning?
Awnings come with a standard lead time of 2-4 weeks depending on the style.
